Spider-Man: Homecoming - Movie Review

Genre: Superhero, Action

Director: Jon Watts

Starring: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr.

My Rating:  ★★★

Synopsis: Several months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City while fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture, emerges.

My Thoughts: Spider-Man has always been my favorite superhero! I am not a comic reader, but I have been in love with this character since the first movie adaptation. I personally find him to be so relatable!!! He is nerdy, easily excitable, and fan-boys over everything. If I wasn't already taken... Peter Parker would have my heart 😏. As such, it make me so happy to FINALLY have Spider-Man in the MCU. I remember hearing the news that Sony was going to share the infamous web-slinger for the first time... I screamed and I think I woke up the neighborhood. It's been a long time coming and it was so worth the wait. I loved this movie and will quite possibly go see it in theaters again.

I really have no issues with this movie. The casting was perfect, the cinematography was perfect, the humor was perfect, the cameos were perfect... this movie was perfect. I had some worries about putting Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in the movie because I thought that it would be a cash grab. I was concerned that Marvel didn't have faith that Spider-Man would be enough to get butts in the seats... but boy was he used just the right amount. He only appeared on screen like four times and every time it made sense for the story. My other concern going into this movie was that we were going to get Peter Parker's origin story again. This is a story that the Spider-Man fandom has seen time and time again and we didn't need that reminder. Please feel safe knowing that there is NO origin story. We just jump into Peter's life and experience his high school struggles as he does. And that brings me to another point... Tom Holland and Peter Parker actually felt like high school students. I have never believed a high school movie more than I believed this one!!!

Overall, I could go on and on gushing about this movie. It was exactly what I needed and exactly what the Spider-Man fandom needed. If you haven't seen Spider-Man yet, I highly recommend that you treat yourself. I truly believe that everyone will have a great time and will leave the theater with many quotes and scenes to talk about at the water-cooler the next day!
