It - Movie Review

Genre: Horror

Director:  Andy Muschietti

Starring: Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Bill Skarsgård

My Rating:  ★★★★☆

Synopsis: A group of bullied kids band together when a shapeshifting demon, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children.

My Thoughts: I really, really enjoyed this movie. I have never in my life watched a horror movie that had so much heart but also had some really terrifying scares. As someone who has
never read the novel that this movie is based on or has seen the 1990 TV miniseries adaptation, I had very limited knowledge of the story of It. I mean there are scenes I think everyone knows of and Pennywise is one of the most iconic horror villains to date, but I did not know the real story. Honestly, I think this was the absolute best way to go into this movie.

I found that I had a couple minor issues with this movie, but overall I think it had so much more to love. I absolutely fell for The Losers Club, each kid with their own charms and humor that worked so well. I could relate to the small town problems and ways of living as someone who also grew up in a small town. What I'm trying to convey is that this movie was above anything I could have hoped for. In my mind, I had a set idea of what a horror movie was.... usually full of predictable scares, gore, and pointless nudity. And sure, in the last couple of years the horror genres has branched out a bit and has actually given us some really great scares, but It was in a category of it's own and I can honestly see myself returning to this movie for years to come.
