Ghosted Pilot Review - Pilot

Network: Fox

Genre: Sitcom

Airs: Sundays at 8:30/7:30c

My Rating: ★★★☆☆

Synopsis: A skeptic is forced to work with a firm believer of the paranormal on unexplained occurrences in Los Angeles.

My Thoughts: This show has two of my favorite comedic actors of this time, Adam Scott and Craig Robinson. This show also has one of the weirdest premises I have seen a half hour comedy have. Knowing this, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the show as a whole. I saw that Hulu had the premiere episode of Ghosted up two weeks early and so I jumped at the opportunity to check it out sooner than expected (even though I was not able to get my review up early 😞).

My thoughts about Ghosted are this... I think this show has a lot of potential, but this pilot episode did not sell me. It was like a weird version of Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters is weird enough. Some of the effects are a bit wonky, which is to be expected for a low budget half hour comedy, and I didn't get a good sense of any of the main characters (with the exception of Scott's quirky yet discredited, Max, and Robinson's bitter mall cop, Leroy). The two have amazing chemistry and have a real Mulder/Scully kind of relationship going which I think works tremendiously. The show only has a half hour to lay out the strange paranormal events that have been happening on Earth and the "laws" of the universe... there couldn't possibly be time to delve deep into the intricacies of each character. I'm optimistic about the future of this show though. I think it has the potential to really click with a certain group of people. If they manage to embrace the strangeness of  their situation, it could be an amazing sci/fi comedy which is not something we get a lot of nowadays. I will check out the next episode for sure and I am very much looking forward to it.
